USING THE TIRE PRESS TO INSTALL or REMOVE RV TIRE SAFETY BANDS

 

• Make sure tire bead is already broken from the rim. Do not use kit as a bead breaker.

What This Tool Does

 

This Tire Press Kit compresses the tire sidewall so you can safely create clearance to install or remove a Tyron or Travel-On tire safety band from the wheel.

    •             (4) Press plates (with receivers)

    •             (2) Crossmembers (upper and lower)

    •             (4) Posts

    •             (1) Threaded rod

    •             (2) Flat washers

    •             (2) Block nut (to seat 

behind wheel face and one to act ad a crank if desired)

Safety Notes (Read Before Use)

    •             Always work on a stable, level surface

    •             Use wheel chocks and set parking brake

    •             Never place fingers between press plates and wheel/tire once tightening begins

    •             Lubricate the rod threads to reduce binding and prevent damage (cutting fluid is recommended).

    •             Tighten slowly and evenly (do not force)

Step-By-Step Instructions

 

1) Place First Press Plate

        1.           Insert one post into the receiver of a press plate (suggest lubricant on the ends of each rod to facilitate ease of insertion & removal)

        2.           Place the press plate on the tire at the work area (where you need clearance).

Repeat for all press plates.

 

 

2) Install the Lower Crossmember

        1.           Place one end of the lower crossmember onto the post already installed.

        2.           Insert the second post into the receiver of the second press plate.

        3.           Place the remaining press plates onto the tire at the other end of the crossmember.

        4.           Position the crossmember so it sits securely on both posts.

 

 

3) Install the Upper Crossmember

 

Repeat the same method above for the upper crossmember:

        1.           Place the upper crossmember onto the posts.

        2.           Confirm both crossmembers are seated properly and aligned.

 

 

4) Insert Washers & Drop the Threaded Rod

        1.           Place a washer over the holes of the crossmembers.

        2.           Drop the threaded rod down through the washer and through the aligned holes in the crossmembers.

        3.           Ensure the rod passes freely through the press assembly.

5) Install the Block Nut Behind the Wheel Face

        1.           Go behind the face of the wheel.

        2.           Position the block nut under/behind the wheel face.

        3.           Line up the rod with the nut’s threaded hole.

        4.           Twist the rod and/or nut until the nut is snug against the bottom of the wheel face and catches the threads correctly.

 

 

6) Tighten the Press to Create Clearance

        1.           Place the second washer on the threaded rod above the crossmember assembly.

        2.           Apply lubricant to the threaded rod (cutting fluid recommended).

        3.           Tighten the press by spinning the rod down using one of the following:

           •             Impact gun + socket

           •             Ratchet + socket

           •             Provided block nut tool (if included)

 

✅ As you tighten, the press plates push down and compress the tire, creating clearance to install/remove the band.

7) Install or Remove the Travel-On Band

    •             With the tire compressed and clearance created:

           •             Install the band into position or

           •             Remove the existing band

8) Lubricate Again & Remove the Rod Safely

        1.           Apply more lubricant to the threaded rod under the nut.

        2.           Carefully back the threaded rod out of the block nut.

        3.           Remove the threaded rod from the assembly.

9) Disassemble the Press Kit

        1.           Remove washers.

        2.           Lift off upper crossmember.

        3.           Lift off lower crossmember.

        4.           Remove press plates and posts.

Quick Tips (Best Practices)

    •             Use plenty of lubricant on threads (reduces binding + saves hardware)

    •             If the rod feels stuck: stop, lubricate, and reverse slightly before continuing

    •             Keep press plates flat and centered on the tire for best grip

    •             Tighten until you have the needed clearance — do not over-compress
